Nike Women’s Marathon Training – Week 5 Recap and “Vlog Every Day in August”

While last week was phenomenal in that I got most of my training miles done, including some cross training. But, this week… WOMP!

Because of my work schedule (I work 2 jobs – personal trainer/coach at the Y and I also work as a fitter at Fleet Feet Chicago), I always have to switch my training schedule up a bit in order to get it all done. I almost never get my miles in on Monday because I work both jobs and those hours take up the whole day. So… I decided to tackle things head-on on Tuesday by doing my NTC (Nike Training Club) workout and make up my Monday miles on Wednesday. Well…

Only a 30 minute workout, but it was INTENSE! :(

I completed the workout (and LOVED it, by the way), got a good stretch in afterward, made sure I got some protein in to help my muscles recover faster, went home and went straight to bed. Then on Wednesday after work, I took to the treadmill to attempt my 6.5 miles. I probably should’ve stretched more but, I didn’t. And I paid for it. I could only get through about 3 miles before my muscles were crying “uncle”. A high intensity plyometric and strength training workout the day before + a 6 mile attempt on the treadmill = TORTURE.

Got it done if my fav Nike Running tank. At least I tried, right?

I went home from the gym stiff-legged and limping. Woke up on Thursday and could barely move. Sooooooo sore! Now, I wonder if I would’ve been been as sore if I’d done the track workout instead. It all remains a mystery.

Because of how sore I was, I took the rest of the week off of any activity. Didn’t log any miles, no walking, no training. Just foam rolling, stretching and trying to recover. But now I know that if I were to attempt another NTC workout, I won’t be as sore because I’ll be stronger! Yay! This week, I’ve got a fresh new start!

Vlog Every Day in August (#VEDA)

For WAY too long, I’ve kept saying that I want to do more videos. Workout videos, how-to videos, cooking videos, etc. Well, here’s my chance! One video, every day, in August.

One of my FitFluential family members, Jill Hanner, found this challenge and presented it to us FitFluential peeps and I thought it was such a great idea. Even if a few of the videos are only a minute long or don’t feature anything to do with fitness or health, it’s going to be fun, challenging and hopefully an awesome learning experience.

I got more information about the challenge through We Blog, We Vlog. If you’re feelin’ “froggy” hop on in the challenge with me come August 1st!

Oh, and subscribe to my channel! I probably won’t post each vlog on this blog every day. So to catch each video, visit my YouTube channel: http://youtube.com/renewedfitness

Here’s a video to get you started!

Be Renewed!
