“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”
-Jim Rohn
Just about every Monday, I post something on here that I find motivating for my own fitness and hope that my readers will too. But I’m learning, and have experienced, that everyone, in every way is motivated by something. Whether it’s motivation to workout, clean up your house, do some gardening, write a poem, or whatever. Something is motivating you to make things happen in your world, and I want you to share it!
For some, it may be a personal health concern that get them moving toward better health. For others it may be an outrageous physical goal that others may have discouraged them from pursuing. Whatever it is, big or small, share it!
I’ll start: Something that motivates me to stay fit and challenge my body is the history of cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol in my family. My grandmother on my father’s side died of complications from diabetes a few years ago. A really great family friend who used to babysit me as a child (whom I lovingly referred to as “Aunt Janet”) died just last month, also of complications from diabetes. So, thinking on their lives and what choices they could’ve made, motivate me to take care of myself through fitness and inspire others to do so as well.
So…what motivates you?
Be Renewed!

My motivation is the closet full of clothes I can’t wear.. I don’t want to throw them away, and I’m tired of being limited to the jeans and cargo pants that actually fit me. Last year, I was a size 4. With yoga that defined my shoulders, and a cut little tush.. Now, I still have the shoulders, and the tush (which i get when I gain weight) but would like to be more beach ready.. I live in Florida, and everyday could be a beach day. (like today)
I’d like to wear a dress without having to suck my stomach in. I’d like to put on jeans without a muffin top. And i would like to not have a couple dimples staring out from my thighs when I pass my mirror..
That’s my motivation.. It’s vain, but it is what it is..
My family doesn’t have any health issues to drive me forward, but I’d rather not be the first generation..
Thanks for your Monday Motivations Renisha!!
Hey Nick! Vain or not, I think your motivations are real and genuine. We all want our bodies to look a certain way, even I do. I think its perfectly ok to have one of your main motivations focused on being happy with your body. Keep me posted about your progress and making everyday a beach day. (I wish!!!) I’ll keep the motivations coming!
I look at photos of former high school classmates, and think, “damn, I’d really hate to be that fat when I once was so thin.” I’ve always been small, but the pounds can creep in if you just let yourself go, the older you get.
So, I really just like being toned, slender, and hot. #vanity.
