By the time you read this post, I’ll have enjoyed a great weekend in Chicago at the Hard Rock Hotel, ran the largest 8K race in the world (Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle!) and met 18 other fun and fabulous bloggers who were also selected to be a part of the Verizon Voices Health and Fitness program. And even though, by now, I probably have received my first device from Verizon and am learning how to use it, I still can’t believe I even have this opportunity. Continue reading →
I am always somewhat skeptical when I first learn about a new healthy trend that starts to form. I try and do some research first before I jump on the bandwagon to spread the word and even more research before I try it myself. That was definitely the case when coconut oil started to get really popular on the fitness and health scene. I just kept thinking “Coconut oil? Really?” But, as it really started to pick up steam and folks started raving about it, I sort of gave in. Continue reading →
Happy 2013, everyone!
I didn’t dive right into writing posts about resolutions, goals, challenges and making 2013 “the best year” right away. Simply because, as of a few years ago, I don’t really believe in resolutions. I believe in setting goals and following through with a plan to achieve them, whatever time of year. Not just in January. Most resolutions I always hear are so lofty and often unrealistic. It pushes me further away from making them and just sticking with my own meaning of doing things with no fear, doing the best I can in everything I do, and living every day to the fullest. And it is always my hope that those who choose January to make very big resolutions are able to stick with them and succeed. Continue reading →
First… Happy new year!!! I know, I’m extra late saying that, but the beginning of this year has been a whirlwind of busy-ness and I’m just now settling down to some writing. Hope you all are having a great new year so far!
Ok, let’s get to it… Continue reading →
I love myself more than I hate the exercise.
This was said today in a conversation I was having with a young lady named Alexis. She has a very inspiring story that would encourage almost anyone to get off their butt and get moving. You see, Alexis used to weight well over 300 pounds. She’s 28 years old and has struggled with her weight for most of her life. About a year ago, Alexis joined the Y (where I work) so that she could start the journey to losing weight and getting healthy. Everyday, she comes in to train with a personal trainer, take a class, swim, walk the track or just do her own workout. She has made significant progress and even ran (and walked a little) the Hot Chocolate 5K this past November. Continue reading →
Hello fellow fitness fanatics! I’m so happy to be finally done editing and ready to post this video for you all. Yay!
I was invited down to the University of Illinois in Champaign (I’m an alumni of this very awesome university!) for a wonderful natural hair conference called “SuperNatural Tender, Love and Hair”. The conference was put on by a great student organization (SuperNatural) that is focused on bringing resources, information and fun on campus about natural hair health. I was honored when they asked me to come down and speak on the health and wellness portion of taking care of natural hair, specifically nutrition. Continue reading →
Yep, you read that right. I, Renisha, the personal trainer and health fanatic, am a sugar junkie. I decided to write this post to be sure all my readers get a more personal side of me. I certainly don’t want to come off as this perfect, unblemished and unaffected trainer that can’t relate to what you all are going/have gone through, only offering information and not sharing the real me. I’m a sugar junkie. I admit it. And I’m not just your regular “I have a sweet tooth” kind of girl. If I could eat candy or cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I probably would. Continue reading →
It’s about to go down!
A great organization that has inspired thousands of Black women to tackle and engage in fitness and wellness through running has just launched running groups around the country! Yup! And they may be in your city! Continue reading →
A powerful voice and role model in the fitness world passed away in his California home yesterday. Jack Lalanne was a very important figure in getting America serious about health and exercise, even before the most recent fitness craze hit. According to his daughter, he was 96 years old and still going strong, exercising 2 hours a day and changing his routine every 30 days. If you’ve ever been up late at night watching television, you may have seen him advertising his juicer and all its amazing benefits. You can read more about Jack LaLanne’s story here.
